| Cheryl Cole being lined up to front US version of The X Factor | 03 Jul 2009 | by Kirsty |
![]() ![]() Cheryl Cole celebrated an X-tra special birthday – as it was revealed she is set to front a US version of The X Factor. The Girls Aloud singer turned 26 with a £60,000 surprise party thrown by Chelsea and England soccer star husband Ashley, 28. And the icing on the cake came when she learned she had been specially chosen by Simon Cowell to take his top-rated TV show across the Atlantic. Senior US executives from NBC are due to fly to Manchester this weekend to see her in action at the live auditions. A source said: “Simon is on the brink of signing a deal to take The X Factor to America and, if he gets his way, Cheryl will be its star. “He thinks she has amazing presence and her down-to-earth Northern charm will appeal to the American public. She is also an incredibly beautiful girl. “She won’t get paid anything like the million pound salary she’s on here, because obviously she is not as well known in the States. “But if it is a success, like most of Simon’s shows are, it could catapult her into the big league.” It is understood Simon, 49, will not be able to appear on the show as he is tied into a deal with rival network Fox for American Idol. The music mogul, who has an estimated fortune of £120million, has already announced he plans to quit after the next series of X Factor. And he has made it clear he wants Cheryl to step into his shoes and become the main face of the show, which regularly pulls in around 15 million viewers. ITV1 bosses are desperately trying to persuade him to stay, but while he wants to continue with Britain’s Got Talent, he feels it is time to move on. Simon was at Cheryl’s bash on Wednesday at London’s Vanilla nightclub. Other guests included Cheryl’s bandmates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts and X Factor judges Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue. Hubby Ashley had secretly invited Cheryl’s showbiz pals, plus friends and family from Newcastle – treating them to flights and putting them up in hotels. He even arranged for Cheryl – looking stunning in a frilly white mini-dress – to be presented with a giant pink birthday cake in the shape of a star. A friend said: “Cheryl just thought they were going out for a quiet meal. “But when they pulled up outside the nightclub, she knew he had planned something special and she welled up with emotion.” Source: The Mirror |

| Birthday girl Cheryl Cole wears revealing £4,000 Alexander McQueen dress... | 02 Jul 2009 | by Kirsty |
![]() ![]() Arriving at her 26th birthday party in a show-stopping, revealing dress, Cheryl Cole was pretty much guaranteed to be the centre of attention. Partying at Vanilla private members club in London, the Girls Aloud singer pulled out all the stops in a £4,000 daring sheer, fringed mini-dress by British designer Alexander McQueen. The Coles and Joan joins a host of the singer's celebrity pals at the party, including Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue and Girls Aloud bandmembers Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts. But by the end of the night, it was Joan who was causing the biggest stir among the assembled paparazzi as her desperation to keep up with the young ones became all too obvious. As she was helped out of the taxi by Ashley, 28, Cheryl gave onlookers as flash of her rose and thorns tattoo around her right thigh as she climbed out of the car. She had clearly gone to some trouble to get ready for her big night out. Instead of her usual Rapunzel like hair extensions, Cheryl pulled her hair back into a tight bun and had a long ponytail hanging down over her exposed chest. She was joined by her fellow X Factor judges Simon, Louis Walsh and Dannii. While Louis arrived alone, Dannii brought boyfriend Kris Smith and Simon set tongues wagging by bringing ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour. Simon had previously attended the launch of Beth Ditto's fashion collection at Evans in Oxford Street with retail tycoon Sir Philip Green and his wife Lady Tina. Helping Cheryl to celebrate were two of her Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberley and Nicola. Fresh from her recent Caribbean holiday, Kimberley, 27, flashed her tanned legs in a fuchsia mini-dress. Also two of Cheryl's protegees from the last series of X Factor turned out to party with their mentor - winner Alexandra Burke, 20, and Diana Vickers, 17. After being surprised by Ashley with flowers and a gift at the X Factor auditions last year, Cheryl enjoyed a quiet meal with her mum Joan and Ashley. While last year's birthday may have been overshadowed by allegations of Ashley's infidelity, this year Cheryl is in a much happier place. | Man cleared over Girls Aloud blog + Gallery Update | 29 Jun 2009 | by Kirsty |
![]() A former civil servant who wrote an internet article imagining the kidnap and murder of the pop group Girls Aloud has been cleared of obscenity. The prosecution was brought under obscenity laws. Darryn Walker, 35, of South Shields, South Tyneside, was charged under the Obscene Publications Act after the blog appeared on a fantasy pornography site. He appeared at Newcastle Crown Court, but was cleared on Monday. His defence argued that the article was not accessible, and could only be found by those looking for specific material. Mr Walker's 12-page blog - Girls (Scream) Aloud - was brought to the attention of police by the Internet Watch Foundation, an organisation for the public and IT professionals which polices potentially obscene material. He was arrested at his home in Mowbray Road, South Shields, by officers from the Obscene Publications Unit in February 2008. David Perry QC, prosecuting, said: "A crucial aspect of the reasoning that led to the instigation of these proceedings was that the article in question, which was posted on the internet, was accessible to people who were particularly vulnerable - young people who were interested in a particular pop music group. "It was this that distinguished this case from other material available on the internet. The CPS concluded, with the benefit of counsel's advice, there was a realistic prospect of conviction." However, a report for the defence by an information technology expert said that it could only be discovered by internet users seeking such specific material. A report from a consultant psychiatrist also said it was "baseless" to suggest that reading such material could turn other people into sexual predators. Tim Owen QC, defending Mr Walker, said: "It was never his intention to frighten or intimidate the members of Girls Aloud. "He had written what he had described as an adult celebrity parody and was only meant to be for an audience of like-minded people. As soon as he was aware of the upset and fuss that had been created, he took steps himself to take the article off the website." He added: "This type of writing is widely available on the internet in an unregulated and uncensored form. "In terms of its alleged obscenity, it is frankly no better or worse than other articles." The courts also heard that Mr Walker had lost his job since his arrest. Judge Esmond Faulks formally returned a not guilty verdict to the charge of publishing an obscene article.
